"Less spam, plenty of space and access from anywhere." - Gmail login page
July 7, 2009: KawanHost is now using Google Apps instead of a shared web-hosting service for email hosting. All email communications seems to be working fine after the switch between 12 - 1 AM. The email

remains unchanged but it is no longer handled by a web hosting company but by Google. The web login page can be seen at http://gmail.kawanhost.com.
Reasons for this move are:
- Security
- Email are stored on Google's server and not on a shared web hosting account.
- Filter and forwarding
- We can filter our emails according to some search criteria. The filter is done before it is downloaded to an email client like Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook.
- We can Label (like folders) the emails that matches the filter or forward them to another email. For example, we can filter emails with subject line "New Customer Has Signed Up" and forward a copy of it to

.
- Usual email hosting doesn't have filter but it does have Mail Forwarding which will forward all emails.
- User inteface
- Gmail has a nicer web based interface for reading and sending mail
- The web based interface use AJAX?
- There's also a mobile application to read mail on a mobile device
- Firewall
- Gmail uses port 80 which is known as the port for all web connection and is usually not blocked.
- The previous webmail application we uses requires connection to port 2095 which is block by some internet connection's firewall.
- Although there's a work around for this called CPanelProxy, it may not be practical. This year alone it broke down 2 times about 3 months apart. Maybe it has something to do with removing and adding sub-domains in CPanel. It's just more hassle.
Anyone can use the Standard Edition for free and but business customers can pay $50/year/email account for the Premier Edition. You will need a domain name and configure its DNS records. See our Help section for more information.
